Obituary

Reginald Allen Yates, affectionately known as Reggie, was born in Europa, Mississippi, to Russell Allen Yates and Dorothy Thomas Yates on January 15, 1954. As a toddler, Reginald and his family relocated to Kansas City, MO, where he was educated in the Kansas City, MO school district—graduating from Central Senior High School in 1973. Upon graduating High School, Reginald joined the United States Army as a Military Police Officer and completed his military service with an honorable discharge. After completing his military duty in the late 1990s, Reginald relocated to Green Bay, WI, where he raised all his children until they completed High School. Reginald returned to Kansas City, MO, where he spent his remaining days. Reginald was preceded in death by his father Russell, maternal and paternal grandparents, stepfather Eugene Shelton, uncles Clarence Thomas and Robert Yates, Aunt Ruby Thomas Murdock, one brother Duane Shelton, a brother-in-law Leon Wallace, and a nephew Carl Randolph. Reginald accepted Christ early in his life and was baptized as a young adult. He regularly attended church until his health faded. Reginald loved his country, spending time with his children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, and had a passion for cooking and gaming with them. Lasting and precious memories will remain with his devoted mother; six children, Alicia McCollough, Rionna McCollough, LaKisha McCollough, Regina McCollough, Ebony Yates, and Tinisha Yates. Reginald also leaves his sisters Shelia Yates (Pam), Glenn Yates (Donald), Sabra Randolph (Kevin), Apostle Karen Yates, Jacquelyn Wallace, Venus Hayes, and brothers Vincent and Daryl Shelton. His two best friends, Michael Scott and Samuel Avery, they called themselves "the three Musketeers: special family friends Patricia Coleman, Elizabeth Ford, Tesha Grover, and Lee W. Ligans. A host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Visitation 10:00 a.m. - 11. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.
