Obituary

Reola Ivory, 85, passed away surrounded by her family at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri on February 27th, 2022. She was born November 19, 1936, in Marvell, Arkansas to the union of John Tabb and Corine Gage. Reola was educated in the Marvell School District and was married to John Henry Ivory in Arkansas. She had a love for sewing that lasted all her life and created outfits for all of her children when they were young. In 1962, she moved with J.H. to Kansas City, Missouri where she became a seamstress at the Betty Rhodes Coat Factory. She was an elementary school teacher at W.W. Yates Elementary School. Later, she worked for 25 years as a nursing assistant in the St. Luke's Hospital system. Reola was a longtime member of Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the usher board. She also attended Bannister Baptist Church. Being a 20-year breast cancer survivor, her quiet strength was an inspiration to her family. She enjoyed listening to gospel and country music. She was an avid reader and was fond of watching classic Western films. Reola loved her family and will be deeply missed. She leaves to forever cherish her memory her children: Billie (Larry) Connor, Sylvester (Ossie) Ivory, Marilyn Ivory, Frederick Ivory, Victor Ivory, Rachel Ivory, and Anthony (Dana) Ivory; her grandchildren: NaSonya Rowell, NaKeshia Rowell, Jeffrey Ivory, J'vona Ivory, Janelle Ivory, Victor Ivory Jr, Rashida Ivory, Quawana Rodriguez, Steven Anderson, Anthony Ivory Jr., Jalil Ivory, Jade Matthews, Clarissa Ivory, Chloe Ivory, Cole Ivory, 25 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Reola also leaves behind her sisters with whom she had a special bond, often simply referred to as "The Sisters": Mercy Wilborn, Mary Bowie, Laruth Woods, Modene McConnell, Brenda Gage, and Sandra Gage. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Henry; her siblings: Ella Smith, Emma Smith, Bobby Gage, and Raymond Gage; her son, Lacey B. Ivory, who died during the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon; and her partner of 45 years, Leroy Fulsom. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 11, 2022, Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors Chapel. Visitation 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Services provided by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors.
