Robert 'Bob' Houston, 58, was born November 6, 1958 in Memphis, Tennessee to Harold Daniel Houston, Sr. and Josephine Houston. He was the fourth of seven children. In 1964 the family relocated to Pittsburg, California where Robert continued his education in the local Pittsburg school system and graduated from All Saints University in Lexington, Mississippi. After settling in Pittsburg, Robert became a member of the West Pittsburg Community Church of God In Christ under the leadership of Pastor J.C. Manning. Robert began living his dream and discovered his love and passion for music at an early age. At the tender age of fifteen, he held the position of Organist at the West Pittsburg Community COGIC. After ministering through music for various churches and choirs, he began composing songs and later formed the group 'True Dedication'. Shortly after, he connected with Covenant Records and released his first project 'One Life to Live' which included eight spirit-filled songs written and arranged by Robert. Robert continued his journey after moving to Kansas where he was a well-known musician throughout both Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri. Robert and True Dedication participated in several gospel music celebrations and were featured in several Gospel Showcases including Donnie McClurkin's New Artist Showcase and Dr. Bobby Jones New Artist Showcase. Robert teamed up with several gospel recording artists including Kirk Franklin, Marvin Sapp, Dorothy Norwood, Dorinda Clark Cole, Donnie McClurkin and Dr. Bobby Jones just to name a few. Robert's Music Ministry also included several television appearances including the PTL Show and TV Talent Hour. At the Omer Awards, Kansas City's Gospel Awards ceremony Robert and True Dedication was nominated in four categories - Song of the Year (Moving Up), Best Contemporary Gospel Choir of the Year, Best Producer of the Year, and was awarded the Best Contemporary Gospel CD of the Year (No Turning Back - 2001); (Release Your Faith - 2002); Producer of the Year (Heaven - 2004). Robert and True Dedication released the following CDs 'Never Forget', 'Heaven', 'Release Your Faith' and 'No Turning Back' which were considered by many a spiritual blessing. In 1984, he married Linda Burton and from their union three children were born, Robert Lee Jr., Robin Lynn and Matthew Malachi. Rev. Robert L. Houston departed this earthly life on March 27, 2017. Preceding him in death are his father Harold Daniel Houston, Sr., stepfather Adam Arrington, maternal grandparents David and Bernice Edmond, and brother Harold Daniel Houston, Jr. He will be deeply missed, but always remembered by his devoted wife, Verna Marie Houston of Kansas City, KS; sons, Robert L. Houston, Jr. and Matthew M. Houston (Minerva); daughter, Robin L. Houston of Las Vegas, NV; step-daughters, Tamia Ellison, Tracey Weaver, Torrine Hunter, and Tamika Sinclair (Oshone); his loving mother, Mrs. Josephine Arrington of Pittsburg, CA; brothers, Vernon Houston of Richmond, CA, Calvin Houston of Pittsburg, CA, and Ronald Arrington of Modesto, CA; sisters, Gloria Mance of Little Rock, AR, Tonya Arrington Williams of Birmingham, AL, and Naomi Arrington Clarke (Pernell) of Nashville, TN; former wife, Shirley Houston of Kansas City, KS; twelve grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 8, 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Church International. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Final services Oakdale, California. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
