Obituary

Reverend Donald LeRoy Saffold was born to the late James L Saffold Sr. and Roberta Saffold on March 18, 1958 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the fifth of six children born, three boys and three girls.

Reverend Saffold was educated in the Kansas City, MO school district, graduating from Southeast High School in 1976. In high school he participated in Youth for Christ and ROTC, Leads Student Government, and served as Governor of Missouri Boys State.

Reverend Saffold worked for many years at John Chezik Honda, later working for Landmark Dodge, Independence, MO and Dodge City, McKinney TX.

God called Reverend Saffold to ministry at a young age serving under the leadership of the late Reverend Earl Abel, of Palestine Missionary Baptist Church. In 1985 he joined Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Dr. A. L. Johnson, going on to pastor New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. After his tenure ended at New Hope, Reverend Saffold joined the Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church where the late Reverend Dr. E. A. Johnson was pastor, and he continued to teach and preach the Word of God. He last attended Mt. Vernon during the tenure of the current pastor, Reverend Donald Givens.

He spread his ministry to the McCune Home for Boys, local prisons, and City Union Mission. He also spent countless hours visiting hospitals, nursing homes, prisons, homeless shelters, and counseling families and individuals going through difficulties.

Reverend Saffold loved and cherished his family and spending time with them as much as possible. He was a multifaceted person, loving music, dancing, politics, traveling, and laughter just to name a few. Pulling energy from experiencing life he was always interested in trying something new, like moving to Dallas. Dedicated to continuous learning, he found pleasure debating on all topics imaginable. Part of his journey in life was to help others, he would give the shirt off his back if someone else needed one.

His father James L. Saffold Sr, mother Roberta Saffold, brothers Ronald Saffold and James L. Saffold Jr., and sister Cecelia L. Saffold-Thomas all preceded him in death.

On Sunday November 15, 2020, Reverend Donald L Saffold was called to his heavenly home.

He leaves to cherish his love and legacy: his loving and devoted wife Chiquita Saffold; sons Donald L Saffold III, Kevin Wattree; daughters, Shirley Niecie Saffold-Scott (Erik), Di'Anna Saffold, DaLaina Saffold and Shawnta Wattree; grandchildren, Reginald E Locke Jr, Jayden C Locke, Brandon J Locke, Pierce J Wattree, Natalie J Locke and Enmeri Saffold; sisters Eva Collins and Roberta Saffold; a host of VERY SPECIAL nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
