Richard Eugene Gunn, 49, was born June 22, 1967 to the union of Ronald and Shirley (Barfield) Gunn in Kansas City, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his father Ronald Gunn, and a sister LaTonya Renee Gunn. Richard was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Northeast High School. He accepted Christ while under the leadership of his uncle, the Reverend Wilbert Long at St. Thomas Missionary Baptist Church. At St. Thomas he served in the kitchen ministry, and helped maintain the church grounds and building. His love of barbequing led to a lifelong career as a chef at numerous restaurants in the Kansas City area. Richard was loved for his great sense of humor, quick wit and contagious laugh. He was always known to lend a helping hand when anyone needed help with moving, cooking or any form of man power (usually he was the supervisor, and Damon was the muscle). Richard departed this life on April 26, 2017 at the Kansas City Hospice House. He leaves to cherish his memory: one son and two daughters, Dominique Hines, Ebony Gunn and Bianca Gunn; his mother, Shirley Gunn; three brothers and a sister, Damon Gunn, Darrick Gunn, Michael Gunn and Yolanda Gunn. He was affectionately known as 'Paw-Paw' to seven grandchildren, Artez Thomas, Saniya Thomas, Tajuan Barnes, Isaac Thibeaux, Isaiah Thibeaux, Terrin Davidson and Marcellus Champ Seals Jr. He also leaves four nieces, Breanna Gunn, CeArra Kelley-Gunn, Laila Dumbuya and Chalise Kelley-Powell and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, friends and other loved ones. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 2, 2:00 p.m. at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the chapel.
