Richard Willard Roberts, Sr., 92, was born on July 30, 1928 to the union of Elester and Lillian (Lewis) Roberts in Kansas City, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Jessie Roberts, Jake Rogers, William Roberts, Charles Roberts and Frank Roberts; four sisters, Alice Appleton, Alberta Castleberry, Ruth Sain and Sadie O' Daniel; son, Richard W. Roberts, Jr.
Richard was educated in the Kansas City, Kansas public schools and was a graduate Sumner High School. After high school he moved to Cleveland, Ohio for eight years and was employed with Miller-Cooper Ink Company. In 1960 he returned back to Kansas City, Missouri and began employed with Kansas City Power & Light Company until he retired. He was united in marriage to Charlotte Roberts she also preceded him in death
Richard was a gifted painter and artist who painted throughout the greater Kansas City area. He painted many posters and billboards.
Richard was a member of the Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ under the leadership of the late Rev. Earl Abel. While at Palestine he painted and sketched many posters and pictures for the church. He was presently a member of the Paseo Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Charles Briscoe. He served on the Deacon Board and other auxillaries in the church. He was a loving father, brother, grandfather and uncle.
He departed this life on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at Redwood of Blue River Care Rehabilitation Center.
He leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Carol A. Hodison (Pete), Kansas City, MO; one brother, Samuel Roberts (Sally); two grandsons, David M. Hodison and Steven P. Hodison; two granddaughters, Angela D. Malele and Taryn S. R. Hodison; nephews, John W. Ferguson, Jr. and Aaron V. Ferguson; nieces, Barbara J. Allen and Barbara R. Simmons (Ronnie); cousins, Tom Hughes and Barbara K. Hughes, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service Friday, May 22, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors Chapel. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the chapel. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
