Obituary

Rodney Bryan Dorsey, Jr., 12, passed away on April 11, 2017 at St. Luke's Hospital - East. He was born December 9, 2004 to Rodney Sr. and Shirley (Manning) Dorsey. Rodney attended Liggett Trail Education Center in Blue Springs, Missouri for nine years. He played softball for 'The Exceptionals' and also graced the cover of author Tavis Smiley's book, 'The Covenant in Action 2007'. Rodney enjoyed music and especially cuddling with his mother. His life may seem short to many, but those who were touched by him understood that the quality of his existence far exceeded the quality of time in which one lives. His gentle spirit could melt the heart of those around him though he never spoke a word. Although Rodney's illness made him appear frail, he possessed strength, determination and the ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges. Rodney is survived by his loving parents, Rodney Sr. and Shirley Manning Dorsey; paternal grandparents, Raymond and Thelma Dorsey of Raytown, MO; maternal grandparents, George and Maxine Manning of Kansas City, KS; sister, Morgan Elaine; a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, other family and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 15, 12:00 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church. Interment Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
