Ronald E.
Vann, Sr.
Jul 28, 1941 — Aug 25, 2019
The sun rose for Ronald Edward Vann Sr. on July 28, 1941 in Nowata, Oklahoma to Ray L. Vann and Minnie L. Vann. Ronald was the sixth of ten children born to this union. Both parents, his brothers John Vann and William Vann; four sisters, Ava Williams, Ruth Warren, Joanne Thurman and Emma Kay Vann preceded him in death.
Ronald accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized at Macedonia Baptist Church in Parsons, KS., where he also attended Parsons High School and Parsons Junior College.
For better opportunities, Ronald moved to Kansas City, Missouri. From a previous union, he had three children, Ronald E. Vann Jr. (Carla), Rhonda M. Vann and Marlene N. Vann. Ronald appreciated the dignity of work and arriving on time. He was so committed to his work that he was promoted to the Superintendent of the Public Works Department, Street & Traffic Division. In 2000, he proudly retired after 37 1/2 years of dedicated service.
He is best known for his expensive taste in clothes, a love for automobiles, and a passion for the Chiefs and Royals. If you ever visited Ronald, you would know CNN was always broadcasting in the background. He was often teased for his dry humor. He is a proud member of Corvette Connected of Kansas City, Missouri and he enjoyed traveling to many conventions and states.
Later in life he united in marriage to Henrietta Vann, whom he remained married to until his death.
He found passion in his grandchildren, Shawn'Ta N. Rushing (Edwin) and Myles E. Vann. Wrapped around his fingers are his great-children, TaShawn Greene, TyLen Rushing and "Baby Girl" TaLiyah Rushing. He will forever be known as "Papa" to them.
The sunset for Ronald on August 25, 2019. His life will be cherished by his beloved wife of 28 years, his three children, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Siblings include his brother Samuel Vann; two sisters, Betty Adams (James) and Wynella Vann, and his sister-in-law Dorcas Vann all of Wichita, KS; a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives that will forever love and miss him.
