Obituary

Rosalind Henora (Hayden) Brooks, 52, KCMO, passed away on April 2, 2016. 'Pumpkin' was born September 19, 1963 at Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. She was the first born child to Cheryl L. Richardson. Her husband, John M. Brooks; maternal grandparents; two uncles, Augustus Hayden and Edwin Hayden; one aunt, VerLea Barbee; step-brother, Anthony Richardson; and step-sister, Angela Richardson all preceded her in death. Rosalind professed Christ at an early age and was baptized as a Christian at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Otis Lloyd. Rosalind was taught as a young child the importance of the church and having Jesus Christ in her life. She was actively involved in Sunday School, Junior Choir, Junior Ushers, the Sunbeam Chorale, and participated in the seasonal programs of the church. As she grew spiritually she became heavily involved in other activities within the church including singing in the Young Adult Choir until her health began to fail. Rosalind enjoyed her high school experience, serving as a class officer and being involved in many school clubs including the Beta and Pep Clubs, the Majorettes and participating in her Junior and Senior proms. She was asked to deliver a speech to her classmates at her baccalaureate ceremony, as she graduated with honors from Southeast High School with the class of 1981 and received an academic scholarship. She continued to be involved with her class reunion. Rosalind was employed at Research Hospital for over twenty years in the Admitting Department. She also was employed at Children's Mercy Hospital and St. Luke's Hospital until her health began to fail. On February 15, 1992, Rosalind married John Michael Brooks at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, and to this union Jarrett Stephan was born. She and John were accomplished two-step dancers. Rosalind was a stylish dresser who loved wearing her 'bling' accessories and sporting her wide variety of Fedora hats. She was always the life of the party with her family and friends. She was always the center of her family's joy. She leaves to cherish her memory: her mother, Mrs. Cheryl L. Richardson; son Jarrett S. Brooks and step-sons, John M. Brooks II and Brian A. Brooks; step-daughter, Emily Reeds; two brothers, Keith M. Hayden (Danni) of Dallas, TX and Frank E. Richardson, Jr. (Crystal); three uncles, Michael E. Hayden, Hartzell Gray, Jr. and Donald W. Gray; one aunt, Diane L. Huff (Christopher); step-father, Frank E. Richardson; step-sisters, Adrian White and Bridgett Cubit; step-grandchild, Marcel Reed; and a host of nephews, cousins, family, dear friends and beloved church members. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 9, 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on this website.
