Obituary

Rosie Ella Smith, 91, was born to the union of the late Mary and Harvey Spivey, Sr. on August 8, 1925 in Tillar, Arkansas. Also preceding Rosie in death were her first husband, Alfred Davis; daughter, Helen Wright; brothers, James Spivey and Mack Alexander; sisters, Flora Robinson, Willia Bee Spivey and Evelyn Bass. Rosie attended Westside Baptist Church Nursing Program where she received her Certificate in Red Cross Nursing. She gave thirty years of service at Louis A. Weiss Memorial Hospital, Chicago, Illinois and also worked part time at Chicago Public Schools, Crane, Westinghouse High School as well as McKinley Upper Grade Center. Rosie confessed hope in Christ at Greater Harvest M.B.C. on the Southside of Chicago under the leadership of Rev. Louis Boddie, where she served as a choir member for many years. She continued her desire to serve the Lord at First Corinthians M.B.C. under the Leadership of her brother, Founder and Pastor Harvey Spivey, Jr. where she served faithfully as a nurse and missionary. Rosie continued her labor in the Lord at Corinthian Temple C.O.G.I.C. in Chicago under the leadership of Elder Bennie Allison, where she served faithfully as president of nurses board for many years. Rosie relocated to Kansas City, Missouri where she became a member of Trinity Temple C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Dr. Benjamin Stephens III and continued growing gracefully in the Lord until God called her home. Rosie was united in marriage to Emerson Smith in 1956. Their union was blessed with four daughter, Annette, Patricia, Beverly and Inez. Rosie departed this life and went home to be with her Lord on October 23, 2016. She leaves to cherish her memory: her only son, Jerry Davis; six daughters, Gloria Alexander, Geraldine Powell, Annette Conley (Steve) Patricia Smith, Beverly Washington (Deacon Robert) and Inez Edwards; one brother, Rev. Harvey Spivey, Jr.; two sisters, Ruth Partee and Jessie Corbin; twenty-five grandchildren, one hundred five great grandchildren, and a host of great-great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 29, 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Temple Church of God in Christ. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church .Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
