Roy Lee Addison, Jr., 70, was born on March 21, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri to the union of Alice Pearl and Roy Lee Addison, Sr. He was the eldest son of 14 children. His parents and four sisters preceded him in death. After graduation from Central High School, Roy joined the U.S. Army. In 1972, he received his honorable discharge as a decorated Sergeant in the Third Army Comp C 6th Battalion 1st Infantry and was later employed by the U.S. Postal Service where he met his wife. He was a Mail Handler and retired as a Team Leader after 40 years of dedicated service. Roy and Johnnie were united in marriage in February 8, 1978 and he became a loving and devoted husband and step-father to her two daughters, Trina and Tracie. To this union one daughter, Janae, was born. He treasured his girls, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Roy accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mariah Walker AME Church in 1976. He was a faithful and dedicated member serving in various ministries including trustee and usher. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Johnnie; three daughters, Janae Addison, Trina (Kent) Bruce, Tracie (Darrell) Hardin; four grandchildren, Craig Smith, Jr., Brittany (Clifton) Odom, Courtney Smith, Bryson Bruce; three great grandchildren; six sisters, Laverne Addison, Sandra (James) Pearson, Sharon (Oscar) Burrow, Karon (Sam) Cofield, Renee (Jeremiah) Roberts, Stephanie Addison; three brothers, Hubert Addison, Stanley (Margaret) Addison and Steve Addison; nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends. Funeral services Thursday, November 16, 10:30 a.m. at Southside Baptist Church. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
