Obituary

Roy Lee Watkins was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on September 18, 1951 to the union of Albert and Juanita Burns-Watkins. Both his parents, grandparents and a brother Melvin preceded him in death. His grandparents Sam and Blanche Burns raised him in Tillar, Arkansas and later relocated to Kansas City, Missouri. Roy attended school at the old Manuel High School on Truman Road. After High School Roy enlisted in the United States Army where he received an honorable discharge. Mr. Watkins was employed at Osteopathic Hospital in Kansas City and later employed at Oakwood Country Club.

Roy was baptized at Calvary Temple Pentecostal Church of Kansas City, Kansas under the leadership of Overseer Ethel L. Williams by his 1st cousin Elder Ira Smith on December 2, 2018.

Upon failing health, he became resident of a nursing facility for numerous years. On August 22, 2020 at Research Medical Center, Roy received his wings and looked back on his broken body and was ushered directly into the presence of a new glorified body.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving sister: Mae Baker, a devoted cousin: Marcus Burns Sr., son: Tryone Watkins, two nieces: Tashae Thompson (Johnny), Jamell Roland, uncle: Joseph Burns Sr., aunts: Anna Drew, Christell James, eight great nephews, two great nieces, five great great nephews, three great great nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 29, at 2:00pm at the Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors Chapel. Private disposition. Visitation Saturday 1:00pm-2:00pm at the chapel. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website. Due to the COVID19 Panademic situation mask are required.
