Obituary

Ruby L. Johnson (68) was born August 31,1950 in Eudora, Arkansas to Ella Mae Gilmore. Her mother preceded her in death in 2003 and her father Jefro Gilmore departed this earth in 2016. Ruby attended Paseo High School. After receiving her GED she took various college classes and also attended nursing school. Ultimately Ruby went on to proudly serve her country as a member of the Army from 1977 – 1978. Ruby spent a portion of her adult years living in San Francisco, California at the Presido Army Base and relocated to Kansas City, Missouri in 1980. After leaving the Army she held various employment. She also owned her own notary service business, serving the urban Kansas City Community. Ruby was a member of Greater St. Matthew Missionary Baptist were she served and led family members to worship. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, baking, caring for plants, and spending time with her great -grandson. Those who knew Ruby knew her for her bright smile and loud boisterous laugh. Ruby departed this life at Carmel Hills Nursing Facility on Oct 21, 2018. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and her siblings Shirley Stephenson (2005), Volean Gilmore (2008) and Thomas Gilmore (2017). She leaves to cherish her memory two sons Carter Johnson and Roy Johnson, both of Kansas City, twelve brothers and sisters; Nettye Voker,(Bert) of Phoenix, Arizona, Theodore Allen, Jeff Gilmore (Thomisa), Bruce Gilmore, Sr.(Dorothy), David Smith, of Atlanta, Georgia, Donald Gilmore, Sr. (Drina), Ronald Gilmore, Brian Jones, Lois Smith of Atlanta, Georgia, Tammy Dozier of Arlington, Texas, Darlene Davis, Christopher Gilmore, and Melonie Gilmore, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, twenty seven nieces and nephews, and a host of other family members and friends. Ruby will be greatly missed. Funeral services Monday, October 29, 11:00 a.m. at Greater St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
