Sandra
Wallace
Dec 26, 1945 — Mar 2, 2025
Sandra Elizabeth Lewis Wallace, a cherished member of the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal church and beloved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, entered into heavenly glory on Sunday March 2nd, 2025. Born on December 26, 1946 in Omaha, Nebraska, Sandra was the beloved daughter of the late Presiding Elder Sanders Howard Lewis, Sr. and Mrs. Mary Davis Lewis.
During her childhood, Sandra's family relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, where her faith, family, and musical gifts were nurtured. Sandra was one of eight children, all of whom preceded her in death: Sanders Howards Lewis, Jr., Fredrick Emerson Lewis, Rosanna Annette Lewis, Richard Allen Lewis, Noah William Wellington " WW " Lewis, Helen Ruth Lewis, and Mattie Sarah Lewis.
Her educational journey began at Booker T. Washington Elementary School and Lincoln High School. With a voice as rich and beautiful as her spirit, Sandra pursued her passion for music at a local conservatory in Kansas City before continuing her studies at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where she trained under the esteemed Dean Warner Lawson. Among her classmates were the renowned soprano Jessye Norman, Donny Hathaway, and Roberta Flack.
Sandra's warm alto voice and dedication to her craft were undeniable. Her lifelong dream of becoming an opera singer was a testament to her deep love for both jazz and classical music. Though a brief illness required her to return home before completing her studies, her love for music remained a central part of her life, and her gift of song continued to bless her community.
Sandra was a woman of incredible work ethic, often balancing two jobs at a time. Over the years, she served as a supervisor at Western and Southern Insurance Company, a clerk at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, a lead edit clerk at the Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) - a government agency responsible for managing the financial and accounting functions of the Department of Defense (DoD) and a cashier at Arrowhead Football Stadium. Whether in the workplace, her church, or her neighborhood, Sandra was known for her warm hospitality, generosity, and genuine kindness. She never met a stranger and her heart for service left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Sandra was a faithful and committed member of her church community, where she served as a stewardess and a missionary. Her love for God and dedication to serving others was evident in her every action, and her faith guided her life's journey.
Sandra leaves to cherish her memory her devoted niece; Cheryl Knowles of California, two loving cousins; Katherine Elizabeth " Kitty Betty" Harris and Angelique Harris, and a host of extended family members, friends, and loved ones whose lives were touched by her warmth, grace, and unwavering spirit.
Though her earthly voice has been hushed, Sandra has reached her ultimate goal joining God's heavenly choir, where her voice will ring out in eternal praise. Her life was a melody of faith, love, service, and dedication, and her memory will forever remain a song in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
