Sarah Kathleen Cook (Banner) was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt and so much more, during her incredible 85 years of life. She passed away peacefully in the early hours of Friday, October 15th, 2021.
Loving. Kind. Sincere. Supportive. Selfless. Calm. Devoted. Encouraging. Faithful. Spiritual. Giving. Grace. Precious. Home. LOVE. These are just a few words friends and family used to describe her. Anyone who knew her would agree she had an uncommon inner strength and an indomitable spirit.
Kathleen had a long and full life. She was born on June 25th, 1936, in Camdenton, MO, to two loving parents, Benjamin and Mary Ellen Banner. She often recollected stories of growing up in a home with five older siblings. Kathleen graduated from Camdenton high school, in 1954. Shortly after she met David Ronald Cook. She loved to tell the story of how she and David met. She would say it was love at first site for David, and he would always agree. However, it took about another week for David to win Kathy's heart, and in the end love prevailed.
David and Kathleen were married on September 3rd, 1955 in Des Moines, Iowa. Within three short years they had welcomed three beautiful children Terry Joe, Kerry Don and Gary Paul. Kathleen's favorite activity was spending time with her family. Her children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of her attention. Throughout the years, David and Kathleen enjoyed trips to the lake, often bringing their family to join the fun. She loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and was happiest when her kitchen was crowded, and her home was full of family and food. Kathleen will be remembered fondly for her home cooked meals and her famous lemon cake.
Kathleen's fun loving, energetic, one-of-a kind personality will be deeply missed. She was full of love and laughter towards everyone she met, and she touched the lives of so many with her joyful spirit. She always doted on her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. They couldn't spend a minute with her without her telling them how much she loved them, how beautiful she thought they were, and how proud she was of all of their families.
Kathleen was a strong woman- strong physically and strong in her faith- she lived life in abundance, overflowing with exuberant praise for her Heavenly Father and the deepest love for her family and friends. Her beautiful legacy lives on in all who were blessed enough to know her. To know Kathleen, is to know the true definition of LOVE.
