Sethethel Jean Wates, 75, KCMO, passed away on September 11, 2016. Affectionately known as 'Pud', she was born September 15, 1940 in Pleasant Hill, Missouri to Ethel M. and Charlie Barbour. Sethethel was preceded in death by both parents; her husband, Willie B. Wates; four brothers and one sister, Robert Barbour, Shellie Barbour, Ernest Barbour, Walter Barbour and Maxine Brooks; and two sons, Ernest Barbour and Willie Wates, Jr. Sethethel accepted Christ at a very early age and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was educated in the Kansas City Missouri School District and attended R.T. Coles. She worked as a domestic worker before joining IBM from which she later retired to enjoy life, before her health started declining. After high school she met and married Willie B. Wates. To this union seven children were born, two of which preceded her in death, Ernest Barbour and Willie Wates, Jr.; Michael Wates of Houston, TX (Sheila) (Becky), Andre Wates (Tina) of KCMO, Yolanda Wates of KCMO, Marisa Wates of KCMO, and Anthony Wates of KCMO. She leaves to mourn her passing: her five children; a sister, Ms. Louise Johnson of KCMO and sister-in-law, Mrs. Almeta Barbour of KCMO; twelve grandchildren, Michael Wates, Jr. (Rebecca), Bria Wates, Kanesha Wates, Anthony Wates, Jr., Kapri Jordan, Tierro Wates (Kiesha), Amber Hunley (Brandon), Robert Mack, D'Ante Wates, Mar'ya Thomas, Tyreke Wates and Alex Pryor; three great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren, Deh'Montae Carter, Ra'niyah Wates and Ra'nia Wates; a host of nephews, nieces, loved ones and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 17, 2:00 p.m. at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Interment Floral Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the chapel.
