Obituary

Woodrow 'Woody' Louden passed away on June 19, 2016 in Kansas City, Missouri at age the age of 70. He was born October 28, 1945 to George A. and Henrietta Louden in Eudora, Arkansas. Woody graduated from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. While at Rockhurst, Woody was a member of the American Criminal Justice Association Lambda Alpha Epsilon Chapter. He later served as an officer in the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam War. Upon returning to Kansas City, Woody joined the Kansas City Missouri Police Department where he served the city he so loved for 25 years and retired as a Sergeant / Supervisor. Woody was a devoted father, brother and uncle, a loyal friend, a dedicated officer of the law, and a lifelong jokester. He enjoyed reading, writing letters to his family members, smoking cigars, watching the Kansas City Royals and spending time with his friends. He loved to make people smile and did everything with an unparalleled passion for impacting people's lives. His honesty, grit, intelligence and warm nature will be missed by those who had the privilege to know him and love him. Woody was preceded in death by his parents George A. and Henrietta Louden; step-mother Ida Mae Louden; beloved son Robert Louden; brother Elbert Louden; and sister Joyce M. Louden. Woody is survived by his two daughters, Adrienne Louden and Melanie Barton; ex-wife Susie Moore Lowe; sisters, Jerlean 'Jeri' Porter and Robbie J. 'Jean' Eddy; nephews, Delano Palmer (Jane) and Robert L. 'Lee' Eddy; nieces, Dawn N. Green, Leigh A. Hepokoski (Timothy) and Sonya J. Eddy; a host of other nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces and cousins; long-time friend, Shirley A. Johnson; best friends Anthony Hogan, Ray Grady and Willie Smith; Godson Keith Gaskins; close personal friends, Pastor Robert C. and Carol Malone (and family); and countless other friends and former colleagues. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 29, 12:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
