Obituary

Sheila Ann Lister, 55, departed her earthly home in Kansas City, Missouri and transitioned to her heavenly home on August 28, 2019. She was born June 30, 1964 in Waynesboro, Mississippi to Willie B. and Betty Raine. Sheila was the second child of four children. She was preceded in death by her father Willie B. Raine, her grandparents, Chestang and Nezar Raine and Odell and Izola Davis.

Sheila graduated from Paseo High School in 1982, where she served four years as the class president and was the Valedictorian. She was a member of the first Pre-collegiate INROADS organization where she later paid it forward by becoming an INROADS Mentor. She graduated from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.

On September 13, 1997, she married the love of her life Stanley Lister. Together they enjoyed quiet time, traveling, spending time with their family, critiquing world news on a regular basis, trying different restaurants for dinner and shopping. They actively served their church and community.

Sheila was a member of Sunrise Christian Assembly for over 24 years, under the late Alease Sutton, Pastor. In 2005, she joined her husband in fellowship at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church under leadership of Dr. Wallace S. Hartsfield, Sr., Pastor. She served in many ministries within both churches including President of Trustee Board, Mission Board, Ambassadors for New Members, Champion Renovation Committee and the Women's Ministry. She also served in the following areas: Vacation Bible School, Sunday School teacher and the Children's Breakfast Ministry. She was involved with many community activities such as, Angel Tree Ministry, Back to School supply give-away effort, and the American Cancer Walk. As her husband recently stated, "she wasn't a bench warmer".

Sheila was a dedicated employee of Sprint for 26 years where she held several leadership roles in Directional Planning and Access Management. She was the co-founder of Women In Sprint Excelling (WISE) with a membership of over 1000 women in its first year. She retired from Sprint in 2015.

In the spring of 2016, Sheila became the Project Coordinator of the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) Community Health Research Group in the Psychology Department and in the School of Medicine. She worked across several faith-based health promotion research projects in expertly designing study materials and procedures, facilitating trainings and health screening events, and conducting evaluation activities. Her quick wit, passion for the work, and humor was beloved by her colleagues, hundreds of students, health agency partners, and leaders from more than 50 churches in the Kansas City metro area and in Jamaica, West Indies.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Stanley Lister of the home; her mother, Betty Raine, Kansas City, MO; brother, Damon Raine (Sherrie) Kansas City, MO; sisters, Marquida Raine, Grandview, MO and Pearl Carter, Stockbridge, GA; mother-in-law, Rose Ann Thompson (Thomas), Kansas City, MO; brother-in-law Tajuane (Tanya) Lister; nephews, Tavion, Trequan and Tyrek, Grandview, MO; nieces, Brittany Hughes and Tiana Lister; a host of uncles, aunts, other relatives and friends.
