Obituary

Shelia Denise Vaughn, 50, KCMO, passed away at St. Joseph Medical Center on November 23, 2016. She was born September 21, 1966 in Kansas City, Missouri to Steve Brown, Jr. and Clarretha Pryor. Her father preceded her in death. Sheila was educated in the public schools of Kansas City, Missouri, attending Bingham Junior High where she participated in the drill team, and graduating from Southwest High School class of 1984 where she was the 22-5 Drill Team leader, on the ICE Dance Team and was also the ROTC Queen for two years. Following high school, she attended Patricia Stevens Modeling Agency. Sheila accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Wallace S. Hartsfield II, where she was a former choir member. She truly loved the Lord and it was often witnessed by her passion for reading the bible and sharing its scriptures. She occasionally worshipped with other churches throughout the city. Sheila worked for Travelers Insurance for a number of years before earning her cosmetology license and operating her own salon from home. She more recently was employed Steam Studio at Rockhurst University as a shuttle driver and Double Decker Tour Bus on The Plaza. She was looking to begin a new position with New Reflections Technical Institute as driving instructor just before her passing. Sheila was very active, frequently taking long walks, jogging, running marathons and bike riding. She was a beautiful, lively, jolly woman who never had anything negative to say about anyone. Her free-spirited, loving smile will be missed by us all. She leaves to celebrate her memory: her husband, Phillip Vaughn; children, Phillip Vaughn, Jr. and Shyleah Vaughn; mother, Clarretha Williams; brothers, Kevin Williams (Kresha) and Steve Brown (Sonya); sister, Michelle Price; a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 10, 11:00 a.m. at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
