Obituary

Shirley would like to let you know that her work here is done. She received a call and because of her strong belief, an offer that you can't refuse, she's reunited with family and friends.

Shirley Ann (Howard) Burns, 65, was born on March 8, 1953 to Emma Lee Howard-Willis in Chicago, Illinois. Her mother and a son, Larry J Burns, Jr. preceded her in death.

Shirley received her education from Central High School through the Kansas City School District. In 1970, she met the love of her life Larry J. Burns, Sr. and they later wed on April 30, 1977. Their union brought two blessings into their lives, Larry Jr. and David.

Shirley dedicated her work life experience as an employee of Kansas City at City Hall for twenty-six years, while not only working hard but building great friendships with many. She later retired in 2003.

Shirley accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and served as a faithful member of Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Frank Williams, since a very young age.

Shirley was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. If you really knew Shirley, then you knew she was very blunt and witty all in one, all while not biting her tongue. Her heart was light, and her pleasant character won her many friends. She encouraged all to move forward when down and celebrated our achievements regardless of size. Even through the loss of her first born Shirley tried to love life by example; forgive and trust God. She would give you the shirt off her back.

Shirley departed this life on April 8, 2018 at the home.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Larry J. Burns, Sr. of the home; one son, David A. Burns of Kansas City, MO; one brother, Andrew Howard (Linda) of Florida; one sister, Lillian Bushnell of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren, Jacob M. Burns, Paris J. Burns, Ni'ah N. Burns, Tayler A. Burns, and Da'Nya A. Burns; six great grandchildren, Anthony C. Burns, Caiden J. Mallard, Amora M. Burns, Kaylei J. Mallard, Ania M. Burns, and Rylee D. Primer; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services Saturday, April 14, 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Washington Baptist Church. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
