Obituary

Sylvester Lee Williams, Sr. 'Boot', 71, was born August 24, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the second born son of Thomas J. Williams and Sarah Sadie (Tabron) Williams. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife of forty-one years Charlotte Rae Williams, his beloved mother Sadie Williams, father Thomas William, Sr., brothers, Virgil and Thomas Williams, Jr., sisters, Emma Jean Williams and Sheila Renee Brown, and grandson Treyvyn Lee Maddex Whitmore. Sylvester was born and raised in Leeds, Missouri with his eight brothers and sisters. He was married to Peggy (Gooden) Williams and had three sons: Randy, Steve and Terry. They divorced and he was later married to Charlotte Rae (Hazzard) Williams on November 6, 1971 and had two children, Sylvester Jr. and Charmaine. Sylvester worked for Vile Goller Printing Company for more than thirty years and also owned/operated C&S Janitorial towards the end of his career that employed his wife and children. He and his wife later retired to Edwards, Missouri where they lived in a lakefront house at Lake of the Ozarks for over twenty years. Our dad was a hardworking man who sometimes held many jobs at once and was referred to as a 'hustler' by many who knew and loved him. Although he loved the city, he learned to love relaxing, boating, fishing and exploring the lakeside during his retirement years. After his wife passed away in January 2012 he moved back to the Kansas City area to be closer to family. He has spent his last few years helping his sister Patricia care for their elderly mother who just recently passed away in January of 2017. Sylvester passed away after a long illness on July 22, 2017 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri surrounded by family. He leaves behind three sons: Randy, Steve, Terry (California) and Sylvester Williams, Jr. (Sherri) and one daughter, Charmaine Williams (Matthew Whitmore) all of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren from marriage with Peggy: Mike, Tanner, Jerod and Stephanie Williams; grandchildren with Charlotte: Olivia, Ian and Teren Williams, Cierra Henderson and Rainyn Whitmore; seven great grandchildren and another great-grand daughter due in September. He also leaves to mourn his passing his sisters: Patricia Ringold of KCKS, Serena Lillibridge of Atlanta, GA, Sarah Williams of Austin, TX and Joyce Williams of Oakland, CA; mother-in-law, Wanda Hazzard of Stockton, MO; best friend since grade school, Al Briggs of KCMO and many more brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, loved ones and family friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 5, 11:00 a.m. at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Private disposition. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the chapel.
