Sylvia Marietha Blake, 63, was born to the late Winlock Wilson III and Sylvia Yvonne Wilson on May 25, 1954 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was educated in the Philadelphia school system and graduated from the West Philly Free School where she excelled in all courses.
Sylvia was walking down the street one day and met the late Roy Blake as a teenager. Who would of thought a country boy from the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia and a city girl from Philadelphia would fall so madly in love. They married in 1972. To that union was born Charna and Trina. Anyone who knew Roy and Sylvia knew how much they loved each other.
In 1978 she joined the United States Army where she was a Finance Specialist. Sylvia earned an Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal 1st Award, An Army Service Ribbon and her Sharp shooters qualification badge. She was honorably discharged. Sylvia took the knowledge she obtained and to further her education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Kansas State University In 1987. She was a Member of the Association of Collegiate Entrepreneurs while enrolled. Sylvia went on to become a bank examiner, traveling up and down the East Coast. She was very good with computers and such. She always had to have the latest in gadgets, a passion she got from her father and passed down to her own children.
Once Sylvia retired, she loved to spend time traveling with Roy and visiting her grandchildren. Sylvia had a love for people and never met a stranger. Everywhere she went, she made new friends. She had a heart of gold and was always trying to help others. She volunteered at several shelters and the crisis hotline.
God in his infinite wisdom called Sylvia home Thursday, December 28, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandmother. Sylvia is survived by her son Michael Eugene Wilson, daughters Charna Blake and special friend Jonathan Kincy, Trina Wash and husband Henry Wash, sister Mary Coleman and husband Lester Coleman, grandchildren Keyel, Kavon, and Laurianna, and her many cousins, brothers-in-law, and friends.
