Terry Lain Hawkins, 63, departed this life on Sunday, November 11, 2018, holding the hand of his devoted wife. Terry was born April 14, 1955 in Kansas City, Kansas to the union of Alexander and Juanita Hawkins. Terry was the oldest of four children.
At an early age, Terry confessed his life to Christ and was baptized at Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Albert Colbert. He was currently a faithful member at Shalom Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Pastor Henry Pace.
Terry was educated in the Kansas City Public Schools. He attended E.C. Meservey Elementary; he was in the first class to enter Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, and he graduated from Paseo High School in 1973. Soon after, Terry enlisted in the U.S. Navy, receiving an honorable discharge in 1975. He also attended DeVry University where he received a Bachelor's degree in Business Management. Terry was employed at the Jackson Employment Agency and various other jobs before his career began at the Internal Revenue Service, lasting for 20 years.
Terry was known for his exuberant personality and his ability to make everyone he met, feel like family. There was never a dull moment in his life and his family and friends find comfort in knowing that he never wasted a minute and lived by the motto, "I find joy in every day, not because life is always good, but because God is and I love God for who He is not for what he does."
On October 29, 2017, Terry married the love of his life, his childhood sweetheart and friend, Tanya E. Clayton. He loved to travel and thanks be to God they took various trips together.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Tanya Hawkins; mother, Juanita Jackson; mother-in-law, JoAnn Wesson; his loving children, Deron Ray, Terrance Davis, and Te'Lor Hawkins; his blended family, Tiana Layton, Crystal Clayton, and Ivye Clayton; three brothers, Rev. Michael Hawkins (Rev. Cheryl), Rev.
