Obituary

Terry E. Pettus, 65 of Kansas City, Mo passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021.

Terry Eugene Pettus was born June 5, 1955 at General Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended Sanford B. Ladd Elementary School, Central Jr. High School, Martin Luther King Jr. High School and would later go on to attend Central High School (Kansas City, MO). Terry received his G.E.D. and attended Penn Valley Community College (Kansas City, MO).

Terry became a medical technician and was later employed at local Kansas City hospitals. Terry went on to work for the City of Kansas City as a Street Preservationist. In his later years he worked for the Sam Walton Corporation.

Terry was very musically inclined; he could listen to any musical arrangement and replay it on the drums. As a teenager he and some friends started a band called the Young Finesse and would go on to open for some musical headliners. Terry enjoyed all forms of music including Jazz & R&B. He also was delighted in dancing, especially two-stepping. Terry held fashion in high regard and always made sure he had the latest styles of attire and maintained a well-groomed appearance.

Terry was a believer in God and attended local area Christian churches. Later in life he would go on to practice Islam.

Preceding him in death is his Mother, Barbara Louise Pettus, Father Eugene Pettus, daughter Valerie Denise Price, and son Jarone Boswell. Terry is survived by his sister Valerie Lynn Pettus, daughters and their spouses: Lashon & Octabius Barkley (GA), Shautiquia (Tika) & Benjamin Sampract (TX), Tarrah & Miguel Hannah (GA), Tashee Kidd-Smith (MO), a son: Terrence Pettus (MO), nephews: Damon Pettus, Harrold Sias, niece: Christina Pettus, 14 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, several aunts, a host of cousins and best friends: Rodney Rhodes (MO), Michael Thomas (CA) and Deborah Wells (MO).

A "Closed Family Only" Memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 20 at Duane Harvey Funeral Directors Chapel. Disposition Private. Services provided by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Due to COVID-19 masks are required. Condolences may be shared at the website.
