Obituary

Tonie Lannette McKinney, 50, was born on April 11, 1966. in Denver, Colorado. Her parents, the late Archie Louis Farr and Dimple Yvonne Farr both preceded her in death. Tonie received her diploma from Ruskin High School in Kansas City, Missouri. She later attended classes at Longview Community College. Tonie was employed as a merchandiser at Staples Promotional Products for over 20 years; she truly loved her job. She was committed and dedicated to her job and cherished every relationship she made while working there. If there was a ladder, you would find her at the top. Tonie rededicated her life to the Lord in January of 2014. She loved her church home at Beth-Judah Ministries COGIC. Every time she walked through the doors she was ready to have church and lift up the name of Jesus. When she had the opportunity to speak or share a word from the Lord she was precise and on point. Tonie, for 24 years, was the beloved wife and best friend of her one and only love Darrell Eugene McKinney, of Kansas City, Missouri. She loved spending quality time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was there for the birth of her grandchildren, family trips, camping, bike riding, and planning for baby showers. It was nothing for her to make plans for upcoming events and traveling for family gatherings. She did not leave her close friends out, she made valuable time for them. Tonie was a survivor of breast cancer for eight years, and a strong contender against ovarian cancer. She routinely participated in breast cancer walks and fundraisers, along with charity events. Tonie was nominated by her physician, Dr. Amy Jew, to throw out the opening pass at one of the Chief's football games during Breast Cancer Awareness Week. She did not allow cancer to slow her down; she was a fighter. Tonie leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband, Darrell McKinney; three children, Darrell E. McKinney, Jr. (Tonya), Gregory Carrell II (Marlene) and Ashley Y. Rhodes (James); two sisters, Cherita Blakey (John) and Keisha Parrish (Alfie); her Mother-in-Love, Ms. Ruby Chambers; six grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other loving relatives and friends. Memorial services will be Saturday, March 25, 11:00 a.m. at Beth Judah Ministries Church of God in Christ. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors.
