Obituary

Velma Marie Jackson, 75, was born in Brunswick, Missouri to Voncille and Vernard Bigby on September 19, 1940. Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Vernard Bigby, Voncille (Richardson) Bigby; two brothers, Myron Bigby, Duane Bigby; and one son, Darrell Jackson. Velma was educated in Brunswick, Missouri during grade school, and attended Dalton Vocational High School in Dalton, Missouri. Velma completed her cosmetology education at Paris College of Hair Design and became a licensed beautician. She was employed and retired from Western Electric and Kellogg's. Velma was married to Robert Jackson and to their union she was blessed with four beautiful sons and one grandson whom she raised as her own son. Velma loved and accepted the Lord at an early age. She became a member of Paradise Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. Velma loved her family and she was loved by everyone whom she encountered. She lived an eventful, fruitful, and extraordinary life and touched many people's lives through her extensive involvement with the church, work and the community. Velma was a loving cherished mother, sister, aunt and friend to everyone. She was an inspiration to all. Velma transitioned to life eternal on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, surrounded by her loved ones. She is survived by three sons; Harrell E. Jackson of Kansas City, MO, Willis C. (Donna) Jackson of Hackensack, NJ, and Carrol D. (Carlin) Jackson, Kansas City, MO; one grandson, Willis M. Jackson; one brother, Samuel Bigby, Sr. of Louisville, KY; two sisters; Lavonne Moore of Kansas City, MO and Donna Swanegan of Brunswick, MO; ten grand-daughters, LaTanya (Lonnel) Taylor, Nicole Jackson, LaTasha Jackson-Jones, Shalonda Sanders, Ebony Jackson, Kesha Johnson, Java Martin, Candace Scott, Crystal Scott, and Camille Scott; twenty-nine great grandchildren and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be Friday, May 27, 11:00 a.m. at Paradise Missionary Baptist Church. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
