Verline Cobbins was born Verline Johnson in Dumas Arkansas on January 19, 1940 to the late Arthur William Johnson (Father) and Ida Martin (Mother). She was loved and raised by her grandparents, Saul & Henrietta Vassol and Ruthie Mae Johnson.
Verline was joined in marriage to David Cobbins, Sr. on January 22, 1967. From this union one son was born, they share four other sons from a previous union.
Before retiring, Verline was employed with the Kansas City, Missouri public school district.
She was a faithful member of the Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. A.L. Johnson, Sr. She later united with the Love United Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dan Vassol, Sr. At the time of her passing she was a loyal and faithful member of Canaan Worship Center where Bishop Tony D. Cobbins, D.M. in, is Sr. Pastor. Her Christian walk was exemplary to those who knew her. She loved singing her testimony, "If It Had Not Been For the Lord on My Side". Verline along with her husband Deacon Davis Cobbins, Sr. faithfully gave leadership to the Golden Saints Ministry. She also gave leadership to Canaan's Noon-day Bible Study.
She loved cooking and blessed many people with her famous butter cake.
Verline was preceded in death by both parents, two sons, Donald Ray and Arnold E. Martin (Genie), her sister, Ruby and brother, Billy West.
Verline leaves to cherish her memory: her loving and devoted husband, Deacon David L. Cobbins, Sr.; her supportive and loyal son, Pastor David L. Cobbins, Jr. (Carla); her mother, Ruthie May Johnson; her siblings, Barbara Wilborn (Richard), Arthur Gene Johnson (Shirley), Sonja Daniels (Clyde), Hezekiah Kilpatrick (Ida); grandchildren, Ovonja Martin, Verletta Martin, Doretta Goolsby (Melvin), Marlo Franklin, Durian Cobbins, Durand and Marcus Davenport; brothers & sisters -in-laws, Linn Cobbins, Clarence Cobbins (Gwen), Rosezenia Lee, Lottie Cobbins, Minnie Cobbins, Louise Cobbins, Art lee Cobbins, Bettie & Earline Cobbins; nine great grandchildren; her walking buddy and friend, Ms. V.; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services Saturday, November 25, 12:30 p.m. at Canaan Worship Center. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
