Vincent R.
Proctor
Jan 24, 1941 — Aug 31, 2017
Vincent Roland Proctor, 76, affectionately called 'Sammie' by siblings and 'Vince' by close friends, quietly slipped away Thursday morning, August 31, 2017 at his South Kansas City home. When his wife went to check on him, Vince was gone. Vince was one of eight children conceived by Kenneth and Mary Proctor, born January 24, 1941. He was born and raised in Marlboro, Maryland. Both parents and a brother, Joseph Proctor preceded him in death. In 1962, Vince joined the United States Air Force as a Jet Aircraft Mechanic. After four years of service, he received an honorable discharge and moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he accepted a job with Union Pacific Railroad. Vince was an excellent worker; the kind of employee who went above and beyond what's required. One day he singlehandedly averted a serious train derailment by using quick thinking and bravery. His grateful employer acknowledged his gallant act by giving him an award. Vince worked for Union Pacific Railroad for thirty years before retiring. In 1966, Vince married Bobbie jean Richardson, a cousin of one of his closest air force buddies. Together they enjoyed fifty-one years of marriage. He enjoyed a variety of activities including fishing, camping, repairing old cars and playing cards. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Bobbie Jean Proctor; three children, Karen LeSane, Jarrett Proctor and Nicholas Proctor; six siblings, Mary Newman, Shirley Neal (Willis), William Proctor, Lewis Proctor, James Proctor (Viola) and Robert Proctor (Shirley Elaine); three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a host of nephews and nieces. Funeral services Saturday, September 9, 11:00 a.m. at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church. Interment Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
