Obituary

Mother Virginia Mae Wright, 89, was born June 1, 1927 to the union of Leonard Goodlow and Opal Mae Brooks. She was raised in a small close knit community in White Cloud, Kansas with lots of family and friends. Being Daddy's girl, Virginia welcomed the opportunity to take a job at Swift Packing House in Omaha, Nebraska with her dad. Early on, Virginia accepted Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior, under the guidance of Elder Elijah H. Cluke. Later, she placed her membership with Foster Memorial Church of God in Christ, Pastor Roy Stillman. That relationship would last a lifetime and when her children were born, she eagerly introduced each of them and taught them how to pray. Her tenacity would eventually bring forth two pastors and a deacon from her children. Sometime later, Virginia gave birth to a beautiful baby daughter, Carole Mae. She met and fell in love with a handsome young soldier, Cecil Wright, upon his returning from the service. She would marry and together they had five children. To improve life for her family, they moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she joined Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, under the anointed leadership of Bishop Daniel M. Jordan. When Virginia's ability to cook was no longer a secret, she served in the church kitchen. She also served on the hospitality committee and worked in private homes for many prominent families such as the Cohens, Churchill's, Dr. Edwards, Dr. Tutera and many others. She retired after falling and breaking her wrist while assisting one of her clients. Virginia often cared for others who were incapacitated. She would take them to her home and become their primary caregiver. She fed them, washed them, and supplied good food and loving kindness. Virginia eventually moved to Grandview, Missouri to the home of her youngest son, Pastor Stuart C. Wright, Sr., where she remained until God called her home on November 6, 2016. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Opal Goodlow; husband, Cecil M. Wright, Sr.; daughter, Carole Mae Wright and brothers, Leonard Goodlow and Warren Goodlow. She leaves to cherish her memory: four sons, Carlton F. Wright, Sr. (Margaret), Terrance A. Wright, Sr. (Marianne), Leonard T. Wright (Mayra) and Stuart C. Wright, Sr. (Serita); one daughter, Denise F. Gray (John); twenty-two grandchildren, fifty-two great grandchildren, one great-great grandson and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 12, 10:00 a.m. at Pentecostal Church of God In Christ. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the church.
