Walter James Hunter III, 59, was born April 24, 1958 in Kansas City, Kansas to Walter Jr. and Shirley (Washington) Hunter. He was preceded in death by his parents, and both paternal and maternal grandparents.

Lovingly known as "Red", Walter was educated in the Kansas City Missouri School District and attended Paseo High School. He formerly served as President of the local NAACP organization and was also a lifetime member of MO CURE.

Walter departed this life on October 28, 2017. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. A special thanks to Mae Quinn, Angelika Mueller-Rowry, Hedy Harden, Keith Brown-El and all of his hospice caretakers.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory: his son, Marcus Stevenson; one brother, Devin Hunter; two sisters, Renese A. Drake and Myrna Washington; four grandchildren, Sadreah Stevenson, Sarae Stevenson, Marcus Stevenson, Jr. and Serenity Stevenson; two aunts, Veronica Love and Melleverene Sims; two nephews, Dwight A. Drake, Jr. (Lindsey) and Jontell Washington; one niece, Rachael Drake; two great nephews, Jontell Washington II and Jaiden Washington; one great niece, Harper Drake; and a host of cousins and friends.
