Walter Frank Lyons was born on November 10, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois, to the union of Leonard Lyons and Dorothy Roundles. His life was one marked by work, independence, service, and the relationships he shared with those who knew and loved him.

Walter received his education through the 12th grade and went on to spend much of his working life as a cook, including work within the nursing home field. Through his occupation, Walter was part of an important profession that served others through the simple but meaningful ministry of preparing meals and providing nourishment.

Walter also answered the call to serve his country as a veteran of the United States Army. His military service became an important chapter in the story of his life and remains a part of the legacy by which he will be remembered.

Throughout his years, Walter experienced the many seasons that make up a life—the places he lived, the work of his hands, the people he encountered, and the family connections that remained part of his story. Though every detail of a person’s journey cannot be captured on a page, Walter’s life had meaning, and his memory will continue through those who remain.

On the morning of August 9, 2026, Walter completed his earthly journey at the age of 69. His passing brings a time of reflection for his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Walter leaves to cherish his memory his sister, Orelia Gatewood of Kansas City, Missouri; his brother, Gregory Mason of Grandview, Missouri, along with other relatives, friends, acquaintances, and all whose lives crossed paths with his throughout the years.
