Obituary

Walter Terry Washington, 57, Raytown, Missouri, was born November 12, 1958 and was called home suddenly and unexpectedly by our Lord and when the Lord calls, as his servants we answer His call. He passed away at home in the arms of his wife. Walter accepted Christ early in life and was humble to the Lord and trusted in the Lord. Walter left to join his loved ones; his parents Mr and Mrs Ivory L. and Ola V. Washington and his older brother Mr. Ivory L. Washington Jr., who all proceeded him in death. Walter was born and died in Kansas City, Missouri. His high school studies were at Bishop Hogan High School. After secondary school he volunteered for and served in the army. He was honorably discharged. He later earned a mechanics degree and after that his LPN license was earned. Walter loved living in Kansas City where he was able to joyfully live and share his life with his many beloved family members. He was fun loving and enjoyed the pleasures in life such as fishing, cooking and crafts. He was a skilled artist, even once turning down the offer of a scholarship to art school. Walter was married to Lori Bland. They were happy and very much in love with each other. He leaves her to sorrowfully mourn his departure. Walter leaves to mourn his passing a daughter, Mrs. Desiree Gahagans Griffin (Henry) and five stepsons: James Bland, Michael Bland, Shaun Bland, Paul Bland and Brandon Bland. He had three grandchildren: Ashton Lattimer, Cameron Lattimer & Dahkota Gahagans. He leaves his grieving sister, Mrs Connie Jackman (Marlon), his sisters-in-law, Ms Tracy Bland and Mrs Deborah Washington (Ivory Jr.); a surviving aunt and two uncles, Mrs Helen Rushing (Eugene) and Mr Samuel Jones. He considered his life blessed by his many nieces: Ola Scott, Angela Hernandez, Nicole Lomax, Jana Lomax, Mariah Morton, Mrs Sharon Andrades (Antony), Connie Washington and Michelle Washington. His nephews include: Aaron Lomax, Ivory Washington III, Marcus Washington, Phillip Washington and Tony Washington. He leaves many favorite cousins including special cousin Eugene Rushing Jr. and many great friends including special friend Roderick Williams. All will also mourn his passing and greatly miss him. The pain is deep in our hearts and the void from losing Walter cannot be filled. We will truly forever miss our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. Into God's arms he returns. Thank you, dear Lord for all of the time you gave to him to be with us. Graveside services will be Tuesday, May 3, 11:00 a.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on this website.
