Wanda Joyce Jenkins, 71, of Grandview, Missouri, passed away on July 13, 2017 at the home. She was born on June 20, 1946 in Kansas City, KS, and grew up in Leavenworth KS. She was the older of two children of the union of Rev. S. J. Holly, Sr. and Armeta Bagby Holly. Wanda was a licensed clinical social worker in the State of Missouri. A graduate of Leavenworth High School, Leavenworth, Kansas she received her B. S. degree in Social Work from the Kansas State College of Pittsburg, Kansas in 1969 and a Master's of Social Work from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS in 1974. Wanda was the director of Concord Impact Center. She spent over 30 years in providing mental health services to those who could not speak for themselves. She spent 17½ years developing clinical case management programs for Swope Health Services, retiring in August 2008. Wanda also served as a case manager and counselor for the Ad Hoc Group Against Crime. She was a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the Missouri Association for Social Workers. During her career, she received the following awards: Missouri Social Worker of The Year; Ark of Friends Community Mental Health Award, and Ark of Friends Professional of The Year Award. Wanda has been a field instructor for the School of Social Welfare, University of Kansas and an adjunct instructor of social work at the University of Missouri, Kansas City and is the past President of the Board of Directors of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) 2011-2012. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority Inc., and was an active member of the Beta Omega Chapter for 28 years. Wanda was also a Life Membership in the NAACP. She is the past president of the Northwest Missouri Women's Missionary Society, and the past treasurer of the Community Housing Network (2009/2010). Wanda believed that one of the most important events in her life was a trip with 101 Black Women from all around the country, who went on ten-day medical mission to Zambia, Africa under the direction of the Fifth Episcopal District of the Women's Missionary Society. Wanda was married to Melvin L. Jenkins, Sr. Esq., for 45 years and leaves loving memories to him and their four adult children, Dawn (Kelvin Wilkerson), Shelley, Melvin, Jr.(Jennifer), and Holly (Ryan Long); seven grandchildren, Kelley, Dyneisha, Taylor, Tyler, Melvin III, Morgan and Raelyn; one great grandchild, Kayvion; and brother, Rev. Simon J. Holly, Jr.(Marilyn). Funeral services will be Saturday, July 22, 11:00 a.m. at Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church. Interment Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
