Obituary

Wendell Phillip Fuller, Sr., 88, was born January 25, 1929 in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky to Fred L. Fuller and Elizabeth (Settles) Fuller. He departed this life on May 4, 2017 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, John Fuller, Carol Fuller, Barbara Neal, Juanita Bridges and Fan Fuller who passed away at a young age; his first wife and mother of his three children, Virginia Caroline Neal Fuller; second wife, Roseanne Clark Fuller and a special niece, Carla Neal. Wendell graduated from high school in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. He then enlisted in the United States Army in 1950, where he served a four year tour of duty in the Korean War as a truck driver. He received an honorable discharge with the rank of Corporal and went to work at the Columbus, Ohio Depot as a security guard in 1954. He received a Korean War service medal and felt it was an honor to protect his country. Wendell moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1961 and worked in numerous jobs before he began working for the federal government at the General Services Administration. In 1985, he retired with twenty-five years of service. After he retired from serving his country, both military and civilian, he found more time to really enjoy life. There were always occasions of celebration with family and friends at barbecues, fishing trips, camping trips, boating and parties to be enjoyed. He was a man who loved to laugh and have a good time. Whenever the family wanted to have a get together, he was the one they called and would reply, 'Let's do it!' He also would help anyone in need. His question would be, 'How can I help you?' Wendell was a kind, generous soul who loved life and always tried to treat people as his equal. Around 1989, Wendell searched and found his church home at St. Therese Little Flower Parish. He loved his church and attended regularly until his health began to fail. While he was able, he served whenever and wherever needed in the parish. Wenda lived with and took care of her father as his health began to decline. For thirteen years he was able to stay in his own home in spite of his health challenges. That wish was honored until the last day of his life when he was moved to the Kansas City Hospice house where he passed. Wendell leaves to cherish his memory: three children, Wendell Phillip Fuller, Jr., Wenda Lee King and Juanita Lynn Lahl (Russell); grandchildren, Michael V. King, Jr., Roshan P. Fuller, Maurice D. Fuller and Natasha D. Fuller; ten great grandchildren, a host of nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives and friends. In addition, he leaves a very special friend, Sister Helen Alder, CSJ who visited regularly and kept his connection to his parish. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 16, 11:00 a.m. at St. Therese Little Flower Parrish. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
