Wesley B. Poke was born September 14,1944 in Egypt, Mississippi, to the union of A.W. & Essie Poke.

He was the second of 7 children born in this family.

He was educated in the Kansas City Mo. Public School District. He graduated from Manual High School in1962. He was an avid basketball and football player, receiving letters in both sports. He was a Boy Scout

and earned the highest honor, as an Eagle Scout.

He accepted Christ at an early age. He joined Linwood Seventh Day Adventist Church in 2013 and was

baptized. He later moved his membership to Bethel Seventh-Day Adventist Church in March of 2014,

under the leadership of Pastor Gary Collins. He was ordained as a deacon, enjoyed bible study and

church fellowship. He became a strong encouragement to others.

Wesley married Grace Jackson in 1962, three children were born to this union Michael, Ken & Brenda.

He later married Zella Timberlake, adding to the family, Anthony, and Wesley Jr. This union was later

dissolved. In 1991 Wesley married Phyllis Johnston, adding three more to the blended family; Sean, Aja

(Tonya) and Charles.

He was employed at the US Postal Service and Kansas City Power and Light, working at both companies

for several years. He opened his own business, in 1981. He was the sole proprietor of the Blue Parkway

Bait and Pet Supply Store, for over 41 years. His love for breeding dogs, fishing, and hunting served as

the inspiration for him to open Blue Parkway Bait and Pet Supply. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and

dog breeder. His expertise allowed him to share his knowledge with his customers and the community

at large.

Wesley's father, mother, one son and wife Phyllis, proceeded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memories:

Five sons, Kenton Poke Sr. (Marisela), Wesley Poke Jr., Anthony Timberlake (Andrella), Sean Johnston

(Maria), Charles Johnston (Clydette)

Daughters: Brenda Butler and Aja Shan (Kavon)

Siblings, Gloria Borders, Irmur Brown, Candis Fuller, Carolyn Poke Brown (Willie), Carl Poke (Claire) and

Wayne Poke

He also leaves a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, his

church family and loving customers.
