Obituary

Wilbur Hawkins Edwards, affectionately known as 'Will Dogg', 66, passed away during the early morning hours on Monday, August 15, 2016. He was born January 16, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri to the late Theria Luther Brown and Mildred Edwards. His brother, Earl Reece; sister, Audrey Newton, and daughter, Tish Blunt all preceded him in death. Wilbur received his education in the Kansas City Missouri School District. He was a star basketball and football player. Shortly after high school, Wilbur began working for Frank & Alice Krensky where he traveled the world and perfected his trades as a construction and building maintenance worker. Throughout his career, Wilbur held many positions in his field which led to employment at General Motors and Armco Steel, ultimately concluding at Kansas University Hospital. Wilbur was a no nonsense type of person. He never had a problem saying exactly what was on his mind. Whether you were young or old, Wilbur never held back his thoughts. If you came in his presence you were subject to his language, which consisted of a few four letter words. Those who knew Wilbur would agree that he had a vivid love for pictures and hats and he loved to dress! When you saw Wilbur he was always dressed from head to toe, making you proud you knew him. Although Wilbur was baptized at Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church many years ago, on August 11th, 2016 he rededicated his life to Christ! He leaves to cherish his memories: his significant other of over 30 years, Michelle Carouthers, his children; Salina Gibson (Lamar), Wilbur Williams, Glenda Burgin, Rachenda Harvey, LaTrece Harvey-Prater (Jamal), Ebony Stanford (Bryon), Dionne Edwards, Elder Edwon Edwards, Cordell Edwards, all of Kansas City, Sharion Sampson of Tulsa, OK; and other children. He also leaves his brother, Michael (Sherri) Edwards of Kansas City; two sisters, Louthenia Coats of Kansas City and Sandra Jackson of Columbus, OH; over 30 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, his special friends, Bobby, Jessie and Terry; a host of nephews and nieces, and last but not least, his beloved dog, Chenelle. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 20, 11:00 a.m. at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Interment Brooking Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. at the chapel. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
