Obituary

Willie Fred Davis, 79, was born in Henry County, Abbeville, Alabama to the late Henry Davis and Laura Kate (Lynn) Davis on August 5, 1938. He was the second of seven children born to this union. He was called home on Sunday, September 24, 2017 and was blessed to celebrate his 79th birthday with his family. Willie was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Henry James Davis and John L. Davis, two sisters Shirley Wilson and Myrtis Dean Jelks, and a son, Adrian Womack. Willie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized into fellowship as a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. Willie attended the Henry County Training School where he was known as an outstanding football and baseball athlete. He was the star quarterback for his football team and was given the name "Chick" by his coach. He was sought out by many scouts and received a scholarship to attend Alabama A & M, but did not accept it due to family responsibilities at home. Upon graduating, Willie relocated to Cleveland, Ohio to meet his high school sweetheart, Ms. Carrie Bell Fields and be joined in holy matrimony on May 23, 1959. From this union five children were born: Michelle, Lynell, Fredrick, Kressia and Crystal. While in Cleveland, he worked at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital, Cleveland Press Newspaper Company and finally at Ford Motors Company, where he was relocated and moved his family to Kansas City, Missouri. He was a loyal employee of Ford and retired with over 30 years of dedicated service. After arriving in Kansas City Missouri, Willie and Carrie found their church home at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Willie was later ordained as a Deacon by Reverend L. Henderson Bell and was a devoted servant until his health issues. Affectionately called "Poppie" or "Pop" by his family, Willie was a family man, a man of a few words, a man full of jokes and laughter, and a man of wisdom who gave sound advice to all of his children, grandchildren and family members who reached out to him. He was a loving husband and devoted father who showed unconditional love to all of his children, and was a father figure to many. One of his favorite saying was, "Family Is All We Got", which was his way of reminding everyone to continue to love, uplift and encourage one another. Willie leaves to cherish his many great and funny memories: his devoted wife of 58 years, Carrie B. Davis; children, Michelle Hayes (Merlin), Lynell Davis, Fredrick Davis, Kressia Phillips (Craig), Crystal Robinson (James) and Faith Shaw; siblings, Otis Davis (Judy) and Dorothy Dozier; sisters-in-law, Willie Davis and Emma Davis; 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services Saturday, September 30, 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. Interment Mt. Moriah Terrace Park. Visitation 11:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
