Yovanda Leigh Wesley, 70 of Kansas City, MO passed away Saturday, July 31, 2021.
Yovanda Leigh Wesley, "Bonnie," was born June 26, 1951 to Robert and Wanda Moore at KU Med Center, in Kansas City, Ks. Her mom, and best friend, Wanda married John Brown when Bonnie was 5. She was his baby girl. Each of her parents preceded her in death.
Bonnie was educated in the Kansas City Public School District and graduated from Southeast High School Class of 1969. She received her Associate's Degree from Penn Valley Community College. She held positions with IBM, Black and Veatch, and Martin Luther King Jr Hospital before returning to school and obtaining her Bachelor of Arts Degree, from Avila Colleg, in her true passion, Special Education. She returned to the Kansas City Public School District as a teacher in 1984, teaching at Mt Washington, Korte, and Pinkerton Elementary Schools. She was an EXTRAORDINARY educator to the children of the KCPSD. She was often tasked with mentoring young teachers, and took great pride in developing curriculum and practices aimed at improving the education the students of the KCPSD were receiving. Before she retired, she came out of the classroom and went into administration with a focus on grant writing. She retired in 2009.
Bonnie married her high school sweetheart Trent Wesley March 20,1972. They have two sons: Darion Wesley and Trent Monte Wesley. She was a fun extremely active mother. She coached baseball and was the mother to countless young men playing baseball in Kansas City. Everyone knew Ms. Wesley's voice in the stands. August 21, 2015 was, without a doubt, the best day of her life. She became a Grandmother. Taj Avery Wesley was the absolute sparkle in her eye and joy in her heart. Of all the hats she wore, Taj's "Grammy" is the one she cherished most.
Bonnie was full of life. She loved to be around friends and family laughing and having a good time. From summers with her cousins in Iola, Ks, and Garfield Circle, to her all her friends growing up in Sheraton Estates. She loved sports and was EXTREMELY competitive. If you ever played cards with her, you know! She had a smile that would light up a room and warm the heart of anyone that received it. She was a straight shooter. When she needed to say something to you, she did. You may not have wanted to hear it, but it was always from a place of genuine care. Her favorite hobby and her place of peace was in her art. She loved to draw and paint.
God called Bonnie home to begin her heavenly life July 31, 2021. She leaves to cherish her memory her Husband Trent Wesley, her sons and daughter in laws Darion and Lorraine Wesley, Trent and Anshul Wesley, her granddaughter Taj Wesley, a host of special friends and loved family members, and her two grand-pups Chief and Bear.
Bonnie was TRULY a phenomenal woman with an INCREDIBLE heart that positively impacted everyone she touched. She is loved, admired, and respected, and she will be missed dearly.
