Obituary

Our heavenly Father reached down and put His loving arms around Yuneta Lampkins on January 8, 2018 at Research Medical Center.

Affectionately known as "Neat" by family and friends, she was born June 22, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri to the union of the late Pink and Mable (Wade) Fant.

Yuneta married Edward Lampkins, Jr. on December 24, 1948. He preceded her death, as did her grandson Travis Hampton.

Yuneta graduated from cosmetology school in 1945. She worked as a fountain clerk at Parkview Drug Store and later as a supply clerk at Menorah Hospital. She was among the first group of African American women hired at Hallmark Cards, from which she retired. After retirement, to keep busy she decided to work part time at Jewish Family and Children's Services from 1980-1990. She also worked part time at St. Monica's and St. Therese's Catholic Churches until she was seventy-eight years old.

Yuneta enjoyed participating in the Women's Clubs. She took up golf at the age of fifty-five and took second place in the 1981 H of A Ladies Tournament. She also enjoyed traveling with friends and family to places like Denver, Jamaica, and the Bahamas. Later in life, Yuneta enjoyed going to the casino with her sisters Emma Jean and Ruth. She also loved holiday gatherings with her family.

Yuneta was a woman of courage and a wonderful example of how to love and support your family unconditionally. To support her grandson TC, she helped him move to Florida, traveled to see her other grandson Justin graduate from Marine Boot Camp in San Diego and even helped raise a grandson.

She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Hampton and Deniece Norman; son-in-law, Johnny Norman; two grandsons, Toil C. Smith, Justin V. Norman; six great grandchildren, Alysesea, Adriana, Jamie, Ezrah, Isaiah and Josiah; sister, Ruth Venable; three nephews, Michael Montique, Ronald Granger and Trony Clifton; three nieces, Grace Jordan, Nadia Jordan and Nyla Jordan; trusted friend, Charles Hampton and a host of other loved ones and friends.
