Yvonne was born on October 1, 1940, at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, to the union

of Charles and Virginia Stevenson. She was the eldest of six children: two brothers, Norman

(Nymie) and Robert (Bobby), and three sisters, Delores (Dee Dee), Elaine, and Marsha (Big

Marsha).

Yvonne received her early education at Medill Elementary School and later attended Crane

High School on Chicago's West Side during a time of racial segregation and social challenges.

Even in her youth, she distinguished herself as an exceptional student, particularly in

mathematics. Her extraordinary ability to mentally add, subtract, multiply, and divide within

seconds earned her recognition from her school principal and was featured in the Chicago Sun-

Times newspaper.

Yvonne was blessed with four children. She welcomed her first child, Ronald Stevenson, and

later, through her marriage to Norman Shaw, Sr., in 1958, became the mother to Keith, Marsha,

and Norman Shaw, Jr. After 11 years of marriage, the couple divorced. With determination and

faith, Yvonne relocated her family to Kansas City, Missouri, seeking greater opportunity and a

safer future for her children.

In Kansas City, Yvonne built a long and successful career in the hospitality industry. She

worked at several prominent hotels and ultimately achieved the position of Executive Director of

Housekeeping. After retiring from the hotel industry, she continued to serve faithfully as a house

manager for a Kansas City family until her retirement.

Yvonne had a deep love for music, especially jazz, Motown, and the Philly sound. She enjoyed

singing and sharing music with her family, instilling in them an appreciation that continues today.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Virginia Stevenson; her sisters,

Delores (Dee Dee) Peterson and Elaine Stevenson; her brother, Norman (Nymie) Stevenson;

her sister-in-law, Mary Stevenson; her brother-in-law, Donald Peterson; and her nephews,

Donnell Peterson and Darnell Stevenson.

On Sunday, January 18, 2026, Yvonne answered God's call and made her peaceful transition.

She will be remembered for her kindness, wisdom, strength, and unwavering devotion to her

family.

Yvonne leaves to cherish her loving memory her children: Ronald (Lisa), Keith, Marsha (John),

and Norman Shaw, Jr.; her brother, Robert (Bobby) Stevenson; her sister, Marsha (Big Marsha)

Guy; grandchildren Cicely (Dwayne), Ronald Aristotle (Courtney), and Madison; great-

grandchildren Brionna, Savanna, Khayred, and Remy; nephews Darren (Gwendolyn), Derrick

(Melaan), Sterling, and Deon; nieces Donya, Daria, Dayshia, Lakeisha, Tutti, Marshun, and

Michah; her beloved cousin, Jerome; and a host of other relatives, friends, and loved ones.
